Short description
The Hungarian Government established the School of Public Health as an independent institute within the University of Debrecen financed in part by a World Bank loan. Postgraduate training in public health was launched in the School in September 1996 followed by launching training in Environmental Health one year later. A PhD programme in Preventive Medicine and Public Health started in September 1999, and postgraduate courses in Quality Assurance and Improvement in Health Care, Health Promotion, Epidemiology are offered from September 2000.
The faculty members of the School has been recruited on a national basis: distinguished lecturers of other universities as well as leading experts from national institutes of public health participate in the programmes in order to ensure the highest quality of postgraduate training. The School is a member of the Association of the Schools of Public Health in the European Region (ASPHER) and its European Training network.
